STUDIO POLICIES and FEES

Scheduling Lesson Times

*Lessons are by appointment only.  All lessons are 30 minutes in length, followed by an optional 30 minute computer learning lab. On your application, please indicate a first, second, and third choice for lesson times. Every effort will be made to accommodate your request, but there is no guarantee.

Fee Information

(Please read the paragraph on fees under "How to Select a Piano Teacher".)

+ The fee for 30 minute private lessons is $25 per lesson. The  digital piano / computer learning lab -- which is optional, but strongly suggested for beginners -- is an additional $10 per 30 minute session.  Fees are payable either monthly or quarterly, in advance.  All billing is done by e-mail, and payment is expected within 10 days of the date of billing.  After 10 days, there is a $25 re-billing fee for late payments.  The Responsible Party signing this policy shall be responsible for payment of billing statements. We accept all major credit cards, and e-mailed statements include the option of submitting return payment securely on line.

+ A $50 registration fee must accompany your application. This fee will hold your space and will also cover the cost of music and consumables for the first year.

Cancellations and Reschedulings

* A 30 day notice must be given for anticipated absences. Exceptions to this policy will not normally be granted. There will be an attempt, but not a guarantee, to reschedule missed lessons when a 30 day notice is given..

* Under no circumstances will missed lessons be deducted from lesson fees, nor will lesson fees be refunded, whether due to cancellation of study at the studio, or for any other reason.

* A 30 day notice, or in lieu of a 30 day notice, payment for 4 weeks of lessons is required for termination of lessons.

* We reserve the right to dismiss a student if we believe that to be in the best interest of the student and/or studio. A refund of lesson payments will be made for all paid lessons not received in this case only.

Lessons

+ It is strongly urged that parents of minor students attend lessons at least once a month. Attending lessons regularly helps with steady improvement of study at home.

+ Students must arrive promptly on time for lessons and be picked up promptly at their scheduled time after lessons. I cannot be responsible for students outside the specified period of their lesson. Students are expected to bring all necessary music and materials to the lesson.

+ A digital piano / computer learning lab is available for all students who sign up for lab. Procedures and policies governing the use of the computer lab are found in a separate Computer Teaching Lab Policy.

+ Please park in the driveway or directly in front of my property.

+ It is strongly urged that visitors NOT be brought to lessons, as visitors can be a disruption. If visitors must be brought to lessons, they must remain as quiet as possible and not interfere in any way.

+ Food and drink are not allowed in the studio at any time.

Suggested Equipment

* After four months of study, all students must purchase a metronome. Information regarding the best purchase prices are available in the studio.

* After six months of study, students should have either a full-sized electronic keyboard with pedal or an acoustical piano. Please keep in mind that all recitals, concerts, and auditions are performed on acoustical, not electronic, keyboards.

Concerts and Recitals

+ Home concerts and recitals are held periodically at the studio or other local location. All students should attend, even if not performing. Due to space constraints, students performing in home concerts are allowed to bring two guests.

+ Dress for student recitals is formal concert attire. Suitable attire: sport coat/tie or white shirt /tie for men/boys. Dresses or tea length skirts for women/girls. No shorts, short skirts, jeans or gym shoes are appropriate. Inappropriately dressed students will not be allowed to perform at recitals.

Term of Policy and Changes To It

*Changes and clarifications of the studio policy and procedures may be announced from time to time in the studio newsletter or by other written notification. Such modifications to the policy shall be considered a binding part of this studio policy and become effective upon receipt or the announced effective date.

*This policy shall remain in effect for the term of study of the student or until superseded in whole or in part by a new policy or announced changes to this policy.
