Learning
the piano is a matter of neither magic nor drudgery. While it requires perseverance
and some effort, the right training environment and methods can make the process of learning to play more fun and fulfilling. The goal at The Right Chord Piano Studio is to take all students as far in
their personal exploration of music as their talents and interests will carry them.
After
evaluating many other worthy means of learning to play the piano, Mr. Miller has adopted
a basic teaching approach which traces its roots back to Beethoven and Liszt, stresses a step-by-step detailed development
of proper technique, musical reading skills, and extensive interpretative analysis.
Mr. Miller includes the best parts of several methods, e.g. Scott, Alfred, Robyn, and Clark, to tailor teaching to
the individual student’s needs or wishes. Such an approach produces far better results for you and leads to more than
just the ability to simply "pound out tunes" on the piano. You become a solid musician, as well as a proficient player.
A Personal Teaching Touch...
Lessons
at The Right Chord Piano Studio are conducted in a dedicated studio on two or three different types of pianos. The lessons are private
or semi-private,
and free from outside interruptions such as telephones, television or family members. Mr. Miller carefully monitors your progress. You will receive assignments at each lesson that you can practice in preparation for
the upcoming lesson. The studio is equipped with books, journals,
and recordings to allow the student to gain a balanced and complete level of training.
It has a comfortable patio waiting area where parents of students can sit, listen to the lesson, read, enjoy a drink
and snack, or even take a dip in the Jacuzzi or the pool.
...With Modern Tools!
To reinforce
skills learned during normal lesson times, a computer-assisted teaching lab, complete with MIDI keyboard and teaching software,
is available to all students within the studio. The computer lab also provides opportunities for those students who wish to
try their hand at composing or those that simply want to learn more about music generally.
Good Music Is For Everybody
Students
in the studio range from very young children to retirees, homemakers, professionals, and working men and women of many walks
of life. Mr. Miller particularly enjoys students who are sincerely interested in learning the art of playing the piano well,
even though they may not contemplate a career in music, per se. Since
most students do not plan to become professional musicians, The Right Chord Piano Studio provides access to many forms
of cultural enrichment beyond the private lessons. including concerts, a computer teaching lab with music appreciation software,
music appreciation classes, and a library of books, videos, and recordings, among others.
Musical Development Through Competition
While
not mandatory, younger students are encouraged to participate actively in competitions.
Such experiences strengthen the lessons learned in the studio and give the student access to the wider musical community. Opportunities for competition experience are numerous and range from small-scale local
competitions to regional or international/ national-level competitions having substantial prizes and visibility.
Show Your Musical Talents to Others
Although
The Right Chord Piano Studio students can win awards in piano competitions locally and regionally, even those who choose
not to compete are invited to showcase their acquired musical skills in a supportive environment of other students and parents
through the vehicle of home concerts and formal recitals. As with any other
type of concert, the home concerts and recitals have professionally printed programs to give the students and audience alike
a sense of a real concert environment. Students also become involved in group
musical performances, such as chamber music, for the personal and musical growth that group performing provides the solo pianist.
Learning Is a Two-Way Street!
As with
any other learning endeavor, communication with students and parents is critical to success.
At The Right Chord Piano Studio, several communication vehicles are employed to assure a clear understanding
of goals and methods. Each child is given an assignment notebook in which practice
assignments are regularly marked, areas of weakness to be emphasized in practice noted, and awards for exceptionally well-prepared
lessons made. Parents are encouraged to review the assignment book frequently
and conferences with parents of minor students are welcomed. A professionally-designed quarterly newsletter, is sent to all
students and clients. The newsletter carries announcements, learning tips and techniques, musical anecdotes, a calendar of
coming events and other news of musical interest. Entering students also receive
at no charge the The Right Chord Piano Studio Student Manual and Resource Guide, a compendium of useful information
about music, piano and lessons at the studio.
